Growing up, all the cool kids at my school either wore the Converse Chuck Taylors or the Vans Authentic sneakers. I didn’t feel “edgy” enough to wear Chucks in junior high, but I did convince my parents to buy me my first pair of Vans in seventh grade. I have such fond memories of those comfy canvas kicks, so finding out that Vans is still one of the world’s bestselling shoes didn’t shock me at all. However, I was a little surprised that it did so well this year despite facing really stiff competition from celeb-backed footwear brands like Adidas and PUMA.
